hikey hike

Today, we were mountain men. We got up at the crack of dawn .....9:30 am..... and packed up our gear-bear spray and all- and left for the mountains (i actually don't know where we went... all i know is it was two hours away from our house).

We got to the place where the trail head started, put some snacky snacks in our packey packs and took off! Okay guys. I'm pretty in shape, like, let's get real. I can play a whole ninety minute soccer game without a break and be perfectly fine. But when we started this hike I thought I was gonna die. Seriously. After trudging along for what seemed like days, my legs and my lungs were on fire. I looked back expecting to see our car clear off in the distance, just to be disappointed that I'd only gone about one hundred steps. Well shoot. I decided to suck it up and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. And besides, it was only a mile and a half long hike. Easy peasy.

We finally got to the top and presto! A beautiful, tree-hidden lake right before our eyes. It was legit. Too legit. We all plopped on a log with the bestest view, shrugged off our bags and pulled out our snacks (fruit, nuts, trail mix, sugar snap peas, the works). It was nice to just soak up the sun with such a pretty view right in front of us. Daddy brought a fishing pole so he whipped that out and got it all set up. Lyndsey was speedy to jump on that so she got the first turn. She took her first cast and what do you know? She caught something! Of course that something was the tree...... (mom and i laughed our butts off). After that we all just hung out! We walked around the perimeter of the lake, skipped rocks in majestic water, and enjoyed the out of doors.

When we'd had enough, we packed up again and headed back. It took us a whopping 33 minutes to get down compared to the 76 minuted it took to climb up! Part of that was all because Lyndsey had the most perfect technique for practically running down the mountain (risky but hilarious).

This hike was so awesome, guys. We had a beautiful view of the mountains all the way to the top, and the lake was so calm and pretty. It was so fun to spend that much needed quality time with my family too. Nothing beats a day in the wilderness with the people that love you unconditionally. Pretty much the most perfectly perfect day.

(excuse the iphone quality pics.)
